Hello SSAS Parent or Guardian,

Sarasota County has a very high Covid-19 infection rate at the moment.  We will be vigilant in keeping all students and staff safe.  You may monitor our Covid-19 information daily on our site http://www.ssas.org/151

Students’ typical symptoms include: fever, cough, runny nose, and a sore throat. Any students with cold or flu like symptoms will be to the clinic and then sent home for immediate pick up – to avoid this, please keep sick students at home.  If a child presents with two or more symptoms at school, or has a fever, they will be sent home for at least 24 hours. To minimize stress, you may contact us and ask us to excuse their work.

If your child is positive for Covid, please contact Tara Tahmosh, Kylie Gannon, or Daniela Arcadia as soon as possible.  This excuses the absences and allows us to contact trace, if needed, on campus. If your child is ill, please ask us to contact the teachers and exempt some work. The more information that we have, the more we can assist you.  Finally, we will request that you tell us any students your child was with, unmasked, on campus or off.

Teachers will post their entire agenda and assignments, with corresponding PowerPoints or files, on TEAMS. Use https://www.office.com to have your child log in; they cannot log in from the district website.  The district has a different Office 365 account that does not include charter schools.

If you have any questions, you can contact Tara Tahmosh, Kylie Gannon, or Daniela Arcadia for more information.

DOH Testing Locations for Students and Staff Only:

Sincerely,

Tara Tahmosh

Atentamente,

Tara Tahmosh

I.  PROTOCOLS FOR SYMPTOMATIC OR COVID-19 POSITIVE STUDENTS

  1. If the student is asymptomatic and tests positive for COVID-19, they may return to campus with a negative diagnostic COVID-19 test (now including rapid tests); or
    1. Home antigen tests: We are still working out how we are going to respond to those opting to take home-antigen tests now that are available at local retailers, but I’m assuming if this is the case, they will need to be able to produce a report including the date the test was taken, the student’s full name, and the student’s date of birth. We will likely not be able to just accept a picture of the home test, since there is no way to confirm who the test belongs to and when it was taken just from the picture.
  2. If the student is symptomatic and tests positive for COVID-19, they may return to campus after 10 days have passed since their symptoms started; or
  3. The student may return to campus with written permission from a licensed medical doctor (MD), osteopathic physician (DO), or an advanced nurse practitioner (ARNP)

II. PROTOCOLS FOR ASYMPTOMATIC STUDENTS WITH EXPOSURE TO COVID-19

    1. The student may return to campus with a negative diagnostic COVID-19 test taken no earlier than the fourth day of quarantine (now including rapid tests); or
    2. The student may return to campus after seven days have passed since their date of exposure without a negative COVID-19 test.
    3. If the student becomes symptomatic, the protocol in the above section must be followed.

III.   If a previously positive student is re-exposed within 90 days from the date their symptoms started, or their first positive diagnostic COVID-19 test was taken (if they had no symptoms), they will not be required to quarantine.

IV.   If a fully vaccinated student is exposed and it’s been at least two weeks since their last dose of the vaccine series was received, they will not be required to quarantine.  I have access to the state vaccination database, so I can verify whether close contacts are vaccinated.  Just send me their name and date of birth.

Lastly, based on how this guidance reads, the above changes only apply to students. Staff members that test positive or who are exposed, will still need to follow the CDC-based guidance from last year.
