Counselor’s Corner

Welcome to the SSAS Counselor Corner Website! The guidance counselor at SSAS is here to help with all parents and student needs, to make sure students are in the appropriate classes, and to help them meet their academic and personal goals as effectively as possible.  I am also here to counsel students individually and in groups when needed and to help prepare them for the future.

FCAT Info

FCAT Testing will be taking place from February 9-March 19, 2010.

The FCAT Writing Test, which is for eighth graders only, will begin on February 9, 2010. Grades sixth, seventh, and eighth will be taking the FCAT Reading test on Tuesday, March 9, 2010 and the FCAT Math test on Wednesday, March 10, 2010.  Eighth graders will also be taking the FCAT Science on March 15, 2010.

Teachers have been preparing students for these tests throughout the school year by teaching the Sunshine State Standards, giving practice exams, and reviewing daily Bell Work. The guidance counselor, Ms. Leader, will also be providing tips on effective test taking strategies for the next two weeks; if you are interested please contact her at 941-330-1855 x 211, or email at rebeccaleader@ssas.org .

Parents can help their children prepare for these evaluations by ensuring their child has eaten breakfast the morning of the tests, is well rested, and arrives to school on time. Please do not take any trips or schedule any appointments that would result in your child missing any of the scheduled tests.
